🎬 MetaDater Plugin

for Jellyfin by VisionplayUK

⏳ Coming Soon - Files & Instructions

What Is MetaDater?

A simple but powerful metadata modifier that allows you to sort movies in Jellyfin using their digital release date instead of theatrical release date. This ensures your latest acquisitions appear at the front of your 'Latest Movies' collection, right where they should be.

Why Do You Need This?

Without MetaDater, movie sorting can be problematic:

Real Example: Avatar: Fire and Ash

Theatrical Release: December 19, 2025

Digital Release: March 31, 2026

When sorted by theatrical date, this movie gets buried far behind older digital releases, appearing 1-2 months back in your collection instead of at the front where newly released digital content belongs.

The Solution: MetaDater lets you sort by digital release date, ensuring latest movies show up where you want them!

Key Features

📅 Smart Sorting

Switch between theatrical and digital release dates for perfect collection organization

🎯 Latest Movies First

Your newest digital acquisitions appear at the front of your collection

🔗 Plugin Compatible

Works seamlessly with Home Screen Sections and Jellyfin Enhanced

Why This Matters

It's surprising that Jellyfin doesn't offer built-in date selection for sorting, but MetaDater fills this gap. When combined with custom plugins like Home Screen Sections or Jellyfin Enhanced, you can create dynamic collections that showcase your latest content exactly how you want it.
